Alicia Vikander, 2016’s Oscar winner for her turn in The Danish Girl, takes her first crack at leading a Hollywood film. She will play the infamous Lara Croft in 2018’s Tomb Raider. The 28-year-old made a quick and impactful entrance into American film with her take as an artificially intelligent being in Ex Machina and has seemed to be one of the most coveted actresses out there since. The film costars Walter Goggins, Hannah John-Kamen, and Dominic West.
Director Roar Uthaug helmed the under-seen 2015 Norwegian disaster flick, The Wave. His keen eye for tense action as well as an already mastered craft of computer graphics made him the clear choice to film the project. After Paramount’s Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, starring Angelina Jolie, disappointed audiences, they let their ‘Tomb Raider’ rights expire and MGM swiftly scooped them up.
